What do the Europeans think about Ukraine?

Representatives of the NGO "Institute of Policy and Governance" took part in the presentation of the survey: "What do the Europeans think about Ukraine?"

At the beginning of November, the Institute of World Policy presented the results of the survey among residents of eight EU countries concerning their views on our country's accession to the EU, as well as their vision regarding to the war in Eastern Ukraine.

The investigation showed that among the associations with Ukraine dominate negative images: war, poverty and Russia.30% of the Europeans believe that Ukraine should be provided with EU membership in order to protect the country from further Russia’s aggression, but Ukraine’s membership prospects are unlikely without fighting corruption and oligarchy.

More than a half of EU citizens (60%) believe that the armed conflict in Eastern Ukraine is inspired by Russia, but the rest of Europeans (53%) say that there is a civil war in Ukraine.

Not only armed confrontation between the two strategically important countries alarms citizens of the EU, but also a lack of respect to the rule of law and a high level of corruption in our country. It should be noted that the situation is worsened by powerful anti-Ukrainian propaganda organized by Russia.

These conclusions, of course, are rather disappointing, but thanks to such initiatives in the mind of progressive Ukrainians grows a clear understanding of the real moods and visions about Ukraine prevailing in the West. That is why the team of NGO "Institute of Policy and Governance" is actively involved in such events and contributes to develop a responsible society in Ukraine, works to spread the best practices of Ukrainian civic initiatives in the world and forms a positive image of our country in the international arena.
